Liberal Arts & Sciences - Women's Studies AA Assessment

Mission and Program Learning Outcomes

The mission of the SCCC Women's Studies Emphasis within the Liberal Arts Program is to recognize gender as a central aspect of human existence. Developed in an interdisciplinary perspective, the program’s particular concern is the interconnection between academic learning, and social, political and personal life. It seeks to provide the scholarly foundation for students’ advocacy for change, for their understanding of the evolution of women's roles and the achievements of women throughout history and across cultures, and for the recognition of the mechanisms of the oppression of and discrimination against women as they interact with other social-political determinants, such as race, ethnicity, class, or sexuality.
