In 2010, Suffolk County Community College's Office for Continuing Education received funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide Health Information Technology job skills training in electronic medical records systems. This training is now offered as a non-credit online Professional Development Certificate Program.      

No Cost Training

Non-credit modular courses offered online will cover

  • the U.S. healthcare system;
  • health IT systems and their implementation; and
  • software support.

General Admission Requirements: You must have IT, Health IT, or health care experience. You must have access to a computer that connects to the Internet, and the computer must be able to run Flash. Some college degree is required.

Depending on education and work experience, those who successfully complete training will be prepared for one of six career tracks in the emerging field of health information technology:

  • Health IT Business Process Redesign
  • Health IT Clinician
  • Health IT Implementation Specialist
  • Health IT Project Manager
  • Health IT Software Support (Help Desk)
  • Health IT Trainer

NOTE: One to three in-class lab sessions will be required depending on the course.
