Distance Education: Faculty and College-aide Proficiencies

Teaching Faculty
The Distance Education Committee recommends that a faculty member who teaches an asynchronous (A) or synchronous (S) distance education course or a blended/hybrid course (B) or a telecourse (T) at Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) possess the following set of proficiencies.

Professional Assistants
The following proficiencies were identified for professional assistants working in the college's distance education classrooms:

  • TouchPad operations
  • Camera functions
  • Video functions
  • Audio functions
  • DVD player functions
  • Fax operation
  • Telephone operation
  • Computer skills

College-Aides
The following proficiencies were identified for college-aides working in the college's distance education classrooms:

Working knowledge of equipment including,

  • Fax operation
  • Telephone operation
  • Pan/zoom camera operation
  • Basic computer skills

As well as the following responsibilities:

  • Proctoring
  • Taking attendance
  • General clerical functions

The campus technology administrator will issue a letter to the chairperson of the DEC listing those individuals who have the above-listed proficiencies.
