  •    Sally Ann Slacke Center

On September 24, 2004, the Corporate Training Center, located on the Grant Campus of Suffolk County Community College, was formally named and dedicated in honor of the late Sally Ann Slacke. Sally Ann Slacke became president and CEO of the family business, Slacke Test Boring, in 1975 following the deaths of her father and her husband. She built the company into one of the largest of its kind in the tristate area. While running the business and raising three daughters, Sally became one of Long Island's most prominent women business owners.

Sally was the first chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Suffolk County Community College. She was originally appointed to the Board in 1984, then served as the board’s vice chairperson from 1994 to 1997 and as its chairperson from 1997 to 2001.

Throughout her career, Sally Ann Slacke was a leader in the Long Island business community. As a founder of the Suffolk County Women's Business Enterprise Coalition and the LI chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners, she championed the advancement of women in the Long Island business community. She was also the first woman to serve on the board of the Long Island Association, where she founded its Small Business Council.

Governors Cuomo and Pataki appointed Sally Ann Slacke Chairwoman of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Board, and in 1997, she received the Small Business Administration’s Women in Business Award. On a national level, Ms. Slacke was appointed by three Presidents as a delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business. She was honored by a fourth President with the National Woman in Business Advocate Award.

Sally Ann Slacke passed away in July 2002. In recognition of her dedication, commitment and vision in leading Suffolk County Community College into the 21st century, the Corporate Training Center was dedicated in her honor.
