About Our Writing Center
Most professional writers and writing
teachers agree that in order for writers to prosper, what they need most
is a thoughtful and interested audience. Our Writing Center provides
this kind of audience for all students and faculty at SCCC. More
importantly, we work with you to develop your writing to its fullest potential.
Our Writing Center staff of professional and peer tutors is aware that
your piece of writing and the ideas that make up your writing are valuable
no matter where you are in the writing process. All members of the
SCCC community are welcome to work on and/or discuss any type of writing
project in the Writing Center.

Some of our services include:
-
One-on-one tutoring which
allows
a student to discuss strategies for generating ideas, for organization
and development, and final review of her/his work. A student can
get feedback on any writing project, whether it is a writing assignment
from class or a personal project, such as a resume or letter of application.
-
Group tutoring offers
students the opportunity to meet once a week for one hour with a small
group of peers and a professional tutor. They work on assignments
they receive from their EG10 or EG11 classes. Students can get a
variety of feedback, develop collaboration skills and gain new perspectives
on their own writings.
-
Send a draft to a tutor using our easy form
which allows students to send papers to the Writing Center by e-mail.
Tutors receive the drafts, comment, give suggestions, and send the drafts
back.
-
Ask a tutor allows students to submit questions
on writing, grammar, style, format, etc. that will be answered by a Writing
Center tutor.
-
Gateway and Mac computers, MS Word, Internet and e-mail access
are available.
-
A variety of handouts covering grammatical and documentation
concerns can be picked up.
Walk in any time during Writing Center hours and sign in.
Often there is no waiting to see a tutor, but thirty-minute appointments
are available if you prefer.
