Rose Tehan
                          1919- 1982

Rose Tehan, a Professor of English at Suffolk County Community College for ten years, was the inspiration behind the opening of this Writing Center.  When the center first opened in 1979, Ms. Tehan volunteered countless hours to tutor students.

Her good friend, Professor Grace Dolan, said, "Rose Tehan was one of the best writing teachers that we had. She was intensely interested in writing, and she could get students excited about writing and about language.  She was very witty, and there was a lot of laughter in her classes."

In 1982, Rose Tehan, while still in the midst of her teaching career, unexpectedly passed away only two weeks after being diagnosed with bone cancer.  Her love of writing and her desire to help others love writing continue on in the center she began.  Here, her dreams of a person who cared, laughed, listened, and taught live on.
