MA01: No student may use a calculator on examinations for topics where the emphasis is computational. The topics that have been judged to be computational are:
| Operations on Whole Numbers | Keedy: Chapter 1 |
| Fractions | Keedy: Chapter 2,3 |
| Decimals | Keedy: Chapter 4 |
| Real Number Systems (signed Numbers) | Keedy: Chapter 10 |
For those students who are legally entitled to use a calculator, the instructor must allow them to use one on those topics where the emphasis is more conceptual than computational. The calculator used must not have a percent key. Those topics judged to be more conceptual are:
| Ratio and Proportion | Keedy: Chapter 5 |
| Percent | Keedy: Chapter 6 |
| Geometry | Keedy: Chapter 8, 9 |
It is left up to the instructor to decide whether or not non-disabled students may also use a calculator for these topics.
Students may use an appropriate calculator on the MA01 final only for those problems testing ratio, proportion, percent and geometry. Every effort will be made to structure the final examination to accommodate the use of the calculator for appropriate problems.
MA07: The use of a graphing calculator is not permitted, however the use of scientific calculators will be at the discretion of the instructor.
MA21, MA22, MA23, MA24 and MA27: A scientific calculator can be required by the instructor, but graphing calculators cannot be required.
MA36: Graphing calculators can be required.
MA61 and MA64: Graphing calculators can be recommended, but not required.
MA62, MA87, MA88: The TI86 graphing calculator can be required by the instructor.
Calculators with a CAS (Computer Algebra System), such as the TI-89, are not permitted.
