What is the difference between the ESL courses and the IEP courses?
The ESL courses are the non-credit part-time classes that are held 6 hours a week for 12 weeks with 1 hour a week lab time.
The IEP courses are the non-credit full-time classes that are held for 18 hours a week for 12 weeks and have a 2 hour online lab requirement each week.
What do I need for admission to ESL classes at Suffolk County Community College?
You must be at least 18 years old and you must take a placement test for modules 1.2 and above.
When can I start classes?
There are 3 semesters each year:
Fall: September - December
Spring: January - May
Summer: May - August
How do I sign up for classes?
If you have studied English before and are able to read and write a little in English, you can arrange to take the ESL/IEP Placement Test. You must sign up in person at one of the offices to take the test.After you take the test, you will receive a placement result letter and will be able to register. All students who want to take the IEP must take a placement test.
If you have not studied English before and are not able to read and write in English, you will attend an orientation for the beginning levels of the part-time program.

What is the cost for the classes?
The part-time courses cost $369.00 plus an insurance fee of $9.00 for 12 weeks of instruction. Students must buy textbooks. The cost of the textbooks varies according to the level of instruction.
The full-time IEP program costs $1,839 + $9.00 insurance fee for 12 weeks of instruction. Students must buy textbooks. The cost of the textbooks varies according to the level of instruction.
Is their any financial aid available for these courses?
There is no financial aid availabe for these courses because they are non-credit courses.
Will these courses fulfill the educational requirement for au pairs?
Most au pair agencies accept Suffolk's part-time ESL program to fit the educational requirement for au pairs.
