Butterfly Gardening
I started a butterfly garden a couple of years ago. My inspiration was an exhibit at the Bronx Zoo named "The Butterfly Zone". Visitors walk through a large enclosure where butterflies fly all around.
By searching the Internet, I found out which plants
and flowers butterflies are attracted to.
I also enjoy trying to identify the butterflies that I see
in my yard.
I took this photo of two Tiger Swallowtail butterflies in

Long Island History
I found myself learning the history of other places on vacations, but not knowing much about the history of where I live (Long Island). On the Internet, I found out a few interesting facts about my town, Coram.
Coram is derived from the Indian word Wincoram and it means
"a passage between hills or a valley". Also shown was this
old photo of a house that I recognized to be the house that is
still standing on the corner of my street,
Coram Mt. Sinai Rd., and route 25. (Click on the image
for a larger view.) The house, which belonged
to Lester H. Davis, had been used for town meetings
starting in the year 1790.
The town is currently restoring the house.

Wine
If you like wine, there is no better place to taste wine than eastern Long Island. I like to keep a collection of my favorite wines in the house. I enjoy taking a ride to the different wineries each year to sample new wines they may have invented.
