How to Request Tutoring on Your Written Assignments

Using your SUNY Suffolk Student email, contact Dr. Susan Fanning at  between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Mondays – Thursdays. Request for appointment should be made a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

Include the following information in your email:

Student ID#
Student Name
SUNY Suffolk Student Email Address
Phone Number
Course Title (e.g. – ENG 101 or HIS 101)
Availability for Tutoring (give day and broad range of times)

Attach a copy of your essay saved as a Microsoft Word document.

You must also complete the two questions below in email for a writing consultant to respond to your submission.

  1. What are the instructions for your assignment? Please copy the exact assignment as printed on your assignment sheet. If the assignment was given orally, carefully explain what your instructor is asking for. Also indicate important criteria (number of pages, secondary sources and documentation style required, etc.)
  2. What questions do you have about your essay? Please be as specific as possible about the kinds of problems you are having with this assignment, such as support of thesis, organization, development, or coherence. Remember: It is NOT appropriate to ask a writing consultant to proofread your essay.

Send your email and attached draft to Dr. Fanning at

You will receive an email notifying you of the date/time of your appointment. You should be ready at your computer, essay in hand, to converse by Zoom or email with a writing consultant at your scheduled time.
