Scholarship Opportunities

Professor of English, Elaine Preston, established this scholarship in memory of her deceased loved ones: mother, Amelia Preston; father, Richard Earl Preston, Sr.; brother, Richard Earl Preston, Jr.; Uncle Bert Preston; and Aunt Jean Preston.

Awarded to: Full-time students

Award: $500 (one award)

Criteria:

  1. Grant Campus Student
  2. Student must demonstrate financial need by completing a supplemental essay
  3. Student must submit a one page writing sample. The sample can include imaginative prose, short stories, poetry or dramatic reinterpretation.

Scopes: Campus Specific, Continuing Student - Selected in Spring/Awarded in Fall, Grant

Supplemental Questions:

* Please submit a one page writing sample which includes imaginative prose, a short story, poetry or a dramatic reinterpretation.

* Please write a 250 word essay describing your financial need.

Awarded to: Full-time or Part-time students

Award: $600 (one award)

Criteria:

  1. Must have taken two or more Creative Writing classes at Suffolk County Community College
  2. 3.0 GPA for 15 credits
  3. Grant Campus student
  4. Submit one piece of creative writing (eg. brief fictional character sketch, poem, or short story)

Award: $600

  1. Ammerman Campus student
  2. Enrolled in a journalism course
  3. Must submit three writing samples which illustrate creative and/or accurate and balanced reporting skills. These should be uploaded into your online scholarship application.
