POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The College Associate Dean for Nursing provides leadership, administration and supervision over the Suffolk County Community College nursing programs, including registered nurse and licensed practical nurse programs. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Responsibilities include:

1.       Provide leadership for program development, review and continuous improvement, including gathering data on student learning, workforce needs and employer satisfaction;

2.       Analyze data on program and student performance to improve the program and increase student success;

3.       Serve as the College’s liaison with the National League for Nursing and other official nursing agencies and associations;

4.       Assure that the College’s nursing programs meet or exceed all standards for continued accreditation with NLNAC;

5.       Develop and recommend curriculum additions, deletions and modifications to align with accreditation requirements and professional standards and prepare program proposals for submission to SUNY, SED, and NLNAC;

6.       Participate in the recruitment, evaluation, selection, and orientation of new full‑time and adjunct faculty members;

7.       Consult on evaluations, reappointments, and promotions of faculty and staff in accordance with College policy;

8.       Expand  partnerships with the community and with area hospitals and nursing facilities;

9.       Oversee the development and maintenance of clinical contracts;

10.   Assist with the development, management and coordination of the nursing program budget;

11.   Seek additional funding sources such as grants and other sources of external funding and manage expenditures for grants and partnerships;

12.   Promote the nursing program, recruit students and provide service to traditional and under-represented populations; review discipline-related enrollment patterns and projections;

13.   Coordinate with faculty and staff to develop and implement admissions policies and procedures;

14.   Encourage and support the integration of technology and distance education into the nursing curriculum;

15.   Work with advisory committees and industry contacts in program development and improvement;

16.   Participate in strategic and long-range planning, as well as establish priorities for resource needs;

17.   Serve as a building administrator, if so assigned;

18.   Perform other related duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.

 

The successful candidate will exhibit a commitment to excellence in education; superior communication and interpersonal skills; ability to solve problems using a collaborative approach; an understanding of administration in a complex, multi-campus community college; and experience in effectively delegating, monitoring and mentoring others.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Master’s Degree in Nursing is required; a Master's Degree with a Doctorate in Nursing or a related discipline is preferred; and 
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in New York State; and 
  • College level teaching experience in nursing; and 
  • Recent professional experience in nursing; and 
  • Demonstrated record of management or leadership positions in the nursing profession.

 The New York State Retirement and Social Security Law requires retirees of a public pension plan within the State or City of New York to disclose prior public employment and pension plan history for the purpose of establishing a retiree’s eligibility for employment.
