Suffolk County Community College, the college’s Foundation, and Johnson Controls welcomed county officials, government representatives and members of the community on March 25 for a workforce partnership showcase focused on addressing the growing demand for skilled HVAC professionals on Long Island.

Held at the college’s Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood, the event highlighted the success of the Johnson Controls Community College Partnership Program, which provides Suffolk students with hands-on training and industry-aligned instruction in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and related building technologies fields.

College leaders and representatives from Johnson Controls delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of strong industry-education partnerships in preparing a job-ready workforce and supporting regional economic growth. Speakers noted that programs like this are critical as demand continues to rise for skilled technicians in energy, sustainability and building systems.

“The partnership reflects Suffolk County Community College’s commitment to expanding career-focused education and creating pathways to high-demand, well-paying jobs. By aligning curriculum with industry needs and providing real-world experience, the program is helping to build a pipeline of skilled workers ready to enter the HVAC field and contribute to Long Island’s workforce,” said Dr. Edward Bonahue, President, Suffolk County Community College.

Following the program, guests toured classrooms and lab spaces in the Renewable Energy/STEM Center, where they observed students engaged in practical training and had the opportunity to speak directly with participants about their experiences in the program and their career goals.
