Suffolk Breaks Ground on Health & Wellness Facility That Will Serve Eastern Long Island

Ground was broken on a new, nearly 49,000 square foot, $18 million Health and Wellness Center on Suffolk County Community College’s Eastern Campus, Riverhead.

The new LEED certified building will serve as a health and wellness facility for the college and eastern Long Island and feature a rock climbing wall, swimming pool, basketball court, locker room and shower facilities, classrooms and faculty space as well as nursing facilities, and an aerobic and weight training room.

No longer are we going to have three disparate campuses,” said Suffolk County Community College President Dr. Shaun McKay, who emphasized the importance of a singular Suffolk experience. "We are officially one college,” he said.

The new building will be available for community use and allow the Eastern Campus to serve as a complete academic center for eastern Long Island.”
