Suffolk Cheer Team Places Third in Nation at Prestigious Competition

Suffolk County Community College's Cheer Team placed third in the nation at the UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships last weekend.

The competition, the most prestigious college cheerleading championship in the country, was held at the Walt Disney World® Resort's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from January 15 to 17. Suffolk was one of only two junior colleges competing among a total of 11 colleges and universities in the Open All-Girl Division.

“Our goal was to make it into finals at our first ever UCA Nationals," said Head Cheer and  Dance Coach Gina Caputo. "Being ranked third in the nation went beyond our expectations.  Now to work towards next year and bringing home the title!”

“We are very proud of the cheer team's outstanding performance,” said Suffolk County Community College President Dr. Shaun L. McKay.  “The College community congratulates our student athletes for this tremendous accomplishment and the recognition they have earned for the team and our college."
