Students from Suffolk County Community College’s Cybersecurity program continue to earn national recognition for their outstanding performance in the National Cyber League (NCL), a premier cybersecurity skills competition hosted by Cyber Skyline, a cloud-based cybersecurity skills evaluation platform. The team placed 28th out of 241 teams in the competition’s Experienced Bracket.

In the individual game, Suffolk student Garrett Alpers achieved an exceptional national ranking of 8th out of 6,980 competitors, placing him among the top cybersecurity students in the country.

Garrett earned the maximum possible score of 3000 points, with final placement determined by tiebreakers which included accuracy and completion time. This accomplishment reflects his dedication, technical skill, and perseverance in mastering cybersecurity concepts and real-world applications.

The National Cyber League is a learning-centered competition that challenges students with hands-on cybersecurity tasks commonly performed by professionals in the field. Participants apply their knowledge in areas such as system analysis, threat detection, and cybersecurity defense, while receiving detailed performance reports that highlight workforce-ready skills.

Suffolk’s Cybersecurity team is coached by Jonathan Sadowski, Adjunct Instructor and Cybersecurity Club Advisor.

“These achievements — both the team’s performance and Garrett’s individual accomplishment — reflect the strength of our cybersecurity program,” said Sadowski.

Suffolk County Community College remains committed to preparing students for high-demand careers through experiential learning opportunities and industry-aligned curriculum, including frameworks such as CompTIA Security+, NIST, and NICE.
