Suffolk County Executive Bellone And Nassau County Executive Curran Agree to Friendly Wager Ahead Of Battle Of Long Island Basketball Game

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran today agreed to a friendly wager ahead of the “Battle of Long Island” basketball games between Suffolk County Community College and Nassau County Community College The County Executive whose team loses will wear the jersey of the opposing squad for a day.

The two games will be hosted in the Brookhaven Gymnasium at Suffolk County Community College Ammerman Campus in Selden and will run from 6:00PM – 10:00PM.

In the event of split victories between the two counties, both County Executives have agreed to wear their home team’s shirt for a day to express school spirit.

The event is free to the public.

“Our community colleges have the talent, skillset, and competitive streak both inside and outside the classroom,” said County Executive Steve Bellone. “Tonight is about rooting for the home team and I look forward to resounding victories from the Suffolk County Sharks.”

“We’re proud that Long Island’s Community Colleges are national leaders both academically and athletically,” said County Executive Laura Curran. “Our young men and women Lions have been on a roll lately. Our competition in Suffolk is fierce, but I’ll take our Lions any day of the week!”
