The Suffolk County Community College library advances the mission of the College by teaching information literacy, providing access to academic collections, promoting student success and encouraging life-long learning. The library provides easy access to diverse print, electronic and media resources. The library fosters an educational environment enabling all members of the college community to analyze information needs, locate, evaluate and effectively use information resources. The library promotes intellectual freedom, the ethical use of information and academic integrity.
Goals and Outcomes
Promote information literacy in the campus community including the ethical use of information and academic integrity.
Teach students through formal and informal opportunities, information literacy and information management skills.
Provide students with a variety of resources and tools on citing sources and using information ethically.
Provide easy access to academic collections including diverse print, electronic, and media resources.
Promote the college community’s effective access to the library’s print, electronic and media information resources.
Maintain a comprehensive collection of current print, media and electronic resources.
Implement services to increase access to library resources.
Promoting student success by fostering an educational environment to promote intellectual growth for students, faculty and librarians.
Provide library facilities that meet the needs of the college community.
Provide virtual learning environments and services for students and to support OpenSUNY.
Librarians participate in regional, state and national networks to share resources for the benefit of the SCCC, SUNY and national library communities.
Partner with teaching faculty to develop programs for students and faculty that foster innovative ideas for student learning.
