Math and Science Accessibility

MathType and LaTeX are software applications that are used to write mathematical and scientific notation, respectively, so that screen reading software will read the equations using the correct mathematical terminology and in the correct order. In Microsoft Word, the Equation Editor can be used for simple equations, but for complex equations, the MathType add-in is recommended.

To request MathType, put in a software request ticket with ITS

In Brightspace, MathType and LaTeX are both integrated in the Brightspace editor. For instructions on how to use these tools, please see Learning Environment – Make Use of the Equation Editor.
