ADA Campus Mentors

Posted May 1, 2026

CTL is happy to announce that six faculty members, two from each campus, have been chosen to serve as SUNY Title II EIT ADA mentors.

Each mentor will receive a stipend to help the SUNY Suffolk community increase capacity in the creation and remediation of materials that comply with the updated regulations for Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).The stipends are funded through the SUNY Electronic & Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility grant.

The Department of Justice updates bring significant implications for teaching faculty in higher education, affecting how courses and instructional materials are designed and/or selected. Currently, all digital content must be accessible by April 2027.

To help support faculty and staff meet this requirement, the six ADA mentors have taken the Deque University accessibility training, as well as two training sessions hosted by CTL. The mentors agree to serve as a resource and to teach their campus colleagues how to remediate or create accessible documents from June 2026 to June 2027. During that time, each mentor will also present two workshops on ADA compliance. Faculty and staff are encouraged to reach out to them directly for assistance.

The ADA mentors are:

Maria Alzugaray, Assistant Academic Chair/Professor, Mathematics, Grant campus

Kerry Carlson, Librarian/Associate Professor, Grant campus

Kristin Conway, Assistant Professor, Business Administration and Accounting, Eastern campus

Courtney Desmond, Specialist I, Academic Skills Center, Eastern campus

Vera Hu, Professor, Mathematics, Ammerman campus

Kim Jones, Associate Professor, Biology, Ammerman campus
