The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) is offering scholarships to eligible New York State residents to take courses toward the AAS degree at Suffolk County Community College along with the integrated Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) program. This scholarship funding is made available through OASAS’ Addiction Professionals Scholarship Program (APSP) which is funded by the New York State Opioid Settlement Fund. These APSP workforce development scholarships will assist individuals to either begin or advance their careers in the addiction services profession. The scholarships will assist treatment providers certified by OASAS, the Office of Mental Health, or the Department of Health with employee recruitment, retention, and professional development.
The Suffolk County Community College Addiction Studies Program prepares students for employment or advancement in the field of Addictions Services and Support. Graduates will have fulfilled all the educational and internship requirements set forth by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Support (OASAS) and by the International Credentialing Reciprocity Consortium (ICRC) to become a New York State Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC).
Applications are being accepted for the Spring 2027 semester.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:
New York State residents who are at least 18 years of age with a minimum of a high school diploma or a high school equivalency (HSE) from an accredited institution and who are employees of one of the following (OASAS, OMH or DOH programs below will be prioritized to receive scholarships):
- OASAS-certified, funded, or otherwise authorized treatment programs;
- OMH- and/or DOH-certified Integrated Outpatient Services (IOS-SUD); or
- DOH Drug User Health and/or Harm Reduction programs.
- Individuals working within the addictions field (prevention, treatment, recovery, and/or harm reduction) in an eligible non-OASAS setting such as OMH and DOH programs not listed above and
- Individuals or students who are interested in earning a CASAC and being able to work in eligible OASAS, OMH or DOH settings.
